The District of Columbia's Parks and Recreation Master Plan Initiative

Welcome to Play DC!

The District of Columbia's Parks and Recreation Master Plan Initiative.

We need your help to develop a comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan for the city! This plan will guide a new, bold and strategic vision for advancing DC's parks and recreation resources. From small pocket parks perfect for reading a book to large recreation centers full of active programs, DPR wants to provide you with the best system in the nation! Washingtonians deserve the best recreational programs and facilities — places where everyone has the opportunity to get out and play. Through your input, we have developed a Vision Framework to guide our efforts; we hope that you are as excited as we are about the goals and targets.

Play is an activity associated with enjoyment and well-being. And play enriches the lives of our children, adults, and seniors. We want DC residents, workers and visitors to PLAY in the greatest sense of the word. We believe this means cultivating the physical health, personal development, and connection to the natural environment of ALL citizens.

This is an ambitious aspiration, but also a fundamental one. As part of the District's commitment to providing a world-class recreational system, the Department of Parks and Recreation has organized its programs around a new motto that embodies the three pillars of this aspiration and guides this master planning process:

Move. Grow. Be Green.

MOVE represents the many physical fitness programs that DPR sponsors and supports. DPR seeks to provide active and inclusive recreation opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.
